Being ‘virtually visible’ and ‘available’ during COVID-19
Many organisations often have a requirement for their managers and leaders to undertake Safety Conversations, Safety Walks or Walk and Talks in a physical environment – no matter what you call them, they use them as a way of demonstrating their Duty of Care and to connect with their employees in an attempt to build and maintain a strong high-performing safety culture.
With the recent COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a fundamental shift in how we work and for many it has given them an opportunity to work remotely for the first time.
For some, the concept of working remotely, in isolation away from co-workers, daily water cooler chats and their leaders can be distressing and be a cause of added anxiety, stress and strain on both their physical and socio-social wellbeing.
Leaders are often best placed to spot this and provide help, conducting a Virtual Safety Conversation will allow them to connect with their team members and be ‘virtually visible’ and ‘available’ to them.
Well-designed working from home arrangements can boost the attraction, retention and wellbeing of employees. Therefore, it is essential that leaders support their employees to embrace working remotely, both through this crisis and beyond, so the organisation can benefit from this new way of working post COVID-19.
LTP Consulting recently worked with a client to transition their leaders and managers into the virtual environment using Augmented Reality as a ‘just in time’ training tool and shifted how they checked-in on their teams using either a video or phone connection to maintain a human connection.
If you would like more information on how to transition over to a virtual environment and to give your leaders and managers the opportunity to maintain their respect, trust and connection with their teams, while they are working remotely, please contact us at deaneddy@ltpconsulting.com.au
